Biography
Caasi was born and raised in London where she grew up surrounded by music of all kinds especially jazz. Her favourite lesson at primary school was country dancing where she was bitten by the dance bug, and she loved to go to the ballet. When she was 11, Caasi joined a Russian dance group, Troika, and by the age of 13 had also gained entry into several youth dance groups which gave her the invaluable experience of performing regularly as well as learning dance technique.
By the age of fifteen, Caasi realised she wanted to pursue a professional dance career and so auditioned for the prestigious Lewisham College Dance Foundation Course, where she studied ballet, jazz and contemporary dance for two years. Caasi then went on to train professionally at the world renowned London Contemporary Dance School, studying ballet, contemporary dance and choreography, graduating with honours after three years. After graduating, Caasi went on to work for several small dance companies in London including the Carl Campbell Co. 7, a collective which fused Afro-Caribbean and contemporary dance. She then went on to co-found Contrived and Exaggerated, a trio that danced at theatres, clubs and festivals all over Britain. She also launched her career as a freelance performer, dancing in videos, stage shows, cabarets and at corporate events, as well as branching out into working as a body-painted human statue. Caasi also found time to attend Lewisham College to gain her Advanced Diploma in Dance which she passed with distinction, as well as being invited to give lectures to her fellow students.
During this time Caasi became enthralled by watching bellydancers and decided to try it for herself. And so a love affair was born... She studied with the top teachers in England, Jacqueline Chapman and Josephine Wise, and attended workshops with top Egyptian dancers whenever possible. Within six months Caasi was being offered bellydance work. Since then, the last six years have been spent performing and teaching all over Britain as well as internationally - Caasi has been invited to perform as far afield as Spain, Holland, India and Russia. Her elegant and dynamic style is enhanced by her classical dance training and she is in great demand to appear at corporate events, award ceremonies and film premiers. Caasi has appeared on BBC and Trouble Television and has performed for many celebrities including Simon LeBon of Duran Duran and Ronnie Wood of the Rolling Stones.
Caasi continues to strive to present bellydance in a positive and artistic way by developing her choreography into a theatrical form that is accessible and enjoyable for all audiences.
